Using Tables to Enhance a Web Page

I've used two tables for this layout. The main image is used as the background for the top table. In the top table, there are 3 cells, with transparent spacers holding the side cells open. I did this to get proper placement of my poem on top of the image.

Over on the left, I have something to read in the first cell. On the right, I've placed my menu.
